Do you remember that feeling? The feeling when you woke up on the first day of school; nervous, worried but with a hint of excitement? Well that is the way I would describe my feelings the morning I woke up of my first ever trade show!
Having only been working for Dora Designs for a month, I still felt slightly hopeless. I did not know all the codes for the products, what was in what range or the prices. I tried my best to do some homework, studying the order form, asking lots of questions and helping set up the stand so I could try and learn where things were. Still, despite my preparations, I was unsure as to what to expect or what to say or do! To put it simply, I felt like a little duck in a big pond!
But how wrong could I be? The preconceptions, worries and reservations were totally uncalled for and the show was so different to how I expected it to be. Once I had taken my first couple of orders I was flying. No longer did I feel worried or nervous about what I was saying to our customers, I chatted to them; about their time at the show, how their day was going and then we’d talk about our beautiful products.
The company had a brilliant and successful time at the show, We met some lovely new customers and of course, welcomed our existing customers onto our new stand. The new products went down a treat and we’ve been kept very busy in the aftermath. We hope all our customers enjoy their orders!
To end: roll on Autumn Fair!
Come and Visit us: Hall 3, Stand T22-U23!
Harrogate Home & Gift (for those of you who don’t know) offers companies like ourselves the opportunity to showcase our new products to potential and existing customers.
The show gives us the opportunity to display both existing and new collections. This year at Harrogate we are launching our new Autumn Winter Collection which includes beautiful wildlife heads in this year’s on trend patchwork fabric. Along with this, we also have individual additions to existing ranges, for example the Canine and Feline Collection.
The run up to the show is always an exciting and busy time for us but offers so much potential for our business. It is a chaotic but rewarding experience – from making the decisions as to how to display the products on the stand, to actually setting it all up (and that’s all before the show has even started!). We are hoping that this year will be no different – preparations have long begun but with the show getting ever closer, it is becoming much more hands on! We’ve just had a meeting with our stand builder and the creative juices have been flowing (to say the least)! It’s got us all even more geared up to get the stand ready and begin sharing all of our new and exciting products with everyone.
We are hoping that with a new team and a selection of beautiful products, this year will be even bigger and better for us!

Buck The Stag Head – Part of our new Autumn Winter Collection
Having started my role as the new Sales and Marketing Administrator last week, I have been inundated with ideas as to how to further promote this wonderful company and its beautiful products!
I began by focusing my efforts on social media (slowly moving us more into the 21st century!).
Twitter has become a great platform for businesses to keep their customers up to date with their latest news and products. So I began by giving the Dora Designs twitter page a bit of a facelift – uploading a cover photo and changing the profile picture to our logo. As we are in the process of launching our new Autumn Winter Collection ready for Harrogate Home & Gift, I decided that introducing our characters individually was an ideal way for our customers to see what new products we have to offer. I began my daily tweeting and have had some great feedback on our new charming characters!
Blogs have also hit the social media scene as a tool to share news and updates between businesses and customers. As we are an international company with distributors in France, Australia, Japan and China (just to name a few!) we would like the opportunity to share our experiences with our customers through the use of a blog. We regularly visit our distributors in respective countries, giving us the opportunity to formulate new ideas, meet new people and more importantly get to talk about and display our amazing products! The aim is that blogs will give our customers more of an insight and a ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse of our company – hopefully this will be the first blog of many!
I’m now looking at getting us on Instagram and Pinterest to further promote our company so keep your eyes peeled!
